Other Technologies

There are lots of other technologies that can contribute to the care of your residents and service users, most of which can be easily obtained commercially.

Smart Speakers

Smart speakers are devices that are connected to the internet that can carry out a variety of task such as making phone calls, playing music or setting reminders


Within care settings or peoples homes they can be used to initate emergency  contacts or just as a convenient way to stay intouch with friends and family.


They work mainly by voice so are ideal for residents or service users who may have problems with touch


There are many diffent models on the market at diffent price points but the most common ones are Alexa from Amazon, Google Nest from google and Apple Homepods from Apple.


They all utilise virtual assistants as their interface eg ask Alexa or Siri

Wearables

Smart watchs (or wearables) are internet connected devices that are increasingly being used in health monitoring as they can be worn at all times.

Tablets

Tablet devices (such as an Apple Ipad) can be very useful in ensuring that people stay connected to the outside world.   There are also many apps available that social care staff can utilise on tablets to  look after those they care for.
