Data Security Protection
Toolkit (DSPT)

FREE Support is available to help ALL CQC registered care providers complete the Data Security Protection Toolkit

The Data Security and Protection Tool Kit (DSPT) is an Online Assessment which all Care Providers who work with and access NHS patient data and systems (including NHS Mail) must complete annually.

The tool kit covers such areas as your privacy and data protection policies, how you store and backup data, how you secure mobile devices, business continuity in the event of a cyber incident and how you manage your IT security and support.

The DSPT is an extremely useful tool because it covers many areas of GDPR compliance that you as a Care Provider are required to implement, such as having up to date policies and ICO registration, ensuring you are operating within the law.

  • It is a contractual requirement with ICB's and Local Authorities.
  • It is looked upon favourably by CQC (KLoE 2.8 Well Led).
  • It can protect you from cyber attacks

It is likely to become mandatory in the furure so it is worth doing now to get used to its requirements.

Successful completion of the DSPT is a requirement to access NHS Mail, Proxy Access and the Digital Transformation Fund (DISC)

Some of you are already familiar with the DSPT, but all Care Providers need to take action (even if you have made a DSPT submission in the last 12 months).

The West Midlands Care Association is part of a FREE national program to assist all CQC registered care providers with this.
