A one-day regulated qualification providing the essential knowledge and practical skills required to act as an Emergency First Aider in the workplace.

Full Description:

The course covers the role and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider, consent, infection prevention, incident recording and safe use of first aid equipment. Learners practise scene assessment, the Primary Survey (DR ABC), CPR, AED use, Recovery Position and emergency communication.

Learners also develop the skills to recognise and manage choking, seizures, bleeding, shock and minor injuries including cuts, grazes, splinters and minor burns or scalds. Optional life-threatening bleeding content can include wound packing and tourniquet use where appropriate.

Course Aim:

To enable learners to provide safe and effective emergency first aid in the workplace until further medical assistance is available.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• Explain the role and responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider, including consent, infection prevention, equipment and incident recording.
• Assess an emergency scene, call for help and complete a Primary Survey (DR ABC).
• Demonstrate adult CPR, safe AED use, Recovery Position and ongoing casualty monitoring.
• Recognise and manage choking and seizures.
• Control bleeding and recognise and treat shock.
• Provide first aid for minor injuries including cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters and minor burns or scalds.
• Optional: demonstrate management of life-threatening bleeding, including wound packing and tourniquet application where appropriate.

Mapping / How it supports:

• Supports workplace first aid arrangements where a First Aid Needs Assessment identifies Emergency First Aid at Work as appropriate. Delivery should reflect current awarding organisation requirements, HSE expectations and Resuscitation Council UK guidance..
