These ideas have been shared with each network and West Midlands Care Association will be working closely with Skills for Care and the chairpersons for each network to ensure the meetings cater to everyone’s needs and is a safe space for managers to discuss issues and gather support and suggestions from colleagues, while also receiving CPD.

In a first-of-its-kind trial, care home residents were offered decaffeinated hot drinks in a bid to reduce falls experienced rushing to the toilet. Conducted across eight residential care homes over six months, the simple switch resulted in a 35% reduction in toileting-related falls . If scaled across the sector, the results would mean thousands of falls prevented and NHS savings of up to £85m per year . This is according to a joint report published last month by Care England, Stow Healthcare and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL). Read more about the trial here .
