The Black Country ICB is pleased to confirm that the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is available for adult social care colleagues.
For more information in the first instance, there is a really useful video available via this link which can be shared with your teams - The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism - YouTube
The training is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death identified the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and people with a learning disability. The programme is in partnership with NHSE and Skills for Care and is the Government’s preferred and recommended training.
The training is delivered in 2 parts.
PART 1 - 90 minutes E-learning
ALL health and care staff, regardless of where they work, must complete Part 1.
This is available on E-learning for Healthcare - NHSE elfh Hub (e-lfh.org.uk) by searching “The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism - Part 1 of 2” . The E-learning is free to access.
Please note that the E-learning must have been completed in order to progress on to Part 2 (either Tier 1 or Tier 2).
PART 2
Members of staff will then need to complete Part 2 of the training.
This is either Tier 1 (a live 1 hour online interactive session) or Tier 2 (a 1 day face to face training session), depending on their role.
As a guide Tier 1 is for staff who need a general awareness and are not patient facing and Tier 2 is for frontline workers/care givers/those who support decision-making processes in relation to someone’s care.
Dates for both Tier 1 and Tier 2 training are now available too book onto.
Please see the attached flyer on how to book onto training.
Tier 2 training places are currently limited; however, we are working with providers to ensure that there is capacity to meet demand over the coming months, so please keep checking for more dates on the links within the flyer.
Due to the limited capacity of Tier 2 training places and the demand of staff requiring the training, please ensure you attend the session if you secure a place.
Non-attendance without adequate notice may incur a charge
