As we prepare for the much-anticipated Summer Conference, a critical question lingers in the air for all of us dedicated to the care sector: ‘Is your care service caring enough?’

I am Marina Ibrahim, and I explore that the true answer to this question goes beyond basic care standards — it tests us to explore how we integrate and celebrate cultural and international diversity within our care environments. My interactive keynote at the conference, titled ‘Embracing Diversity, Enriching Care: Leading Inclusivity in Multicultural Settings’ is designed to shed light on the crucial role of cultural diversity and inclusive leadership in healthcare.

The Importance of Cultural Diversity in Care

In addressing the challenges of understaffing, our care sector increasingly relies on international diversity as a vital resource. Recruiting carers from overseas introduces a broad spectrum of cultural diversity that enriches our caregiving.

This diversity compels us to adapt and innovate in how we manage and integrate these varied perspectives into our daily operations to best serve our care users.

Our care environments are increasingly multicultural, presenting both challenges and opportunities for those in leadership positions. This keynote will explore several crucial areas:

  • Cultural Awareness: Enhancing our understanding of the diverse backgrounds of our teams and the individuals they care for.
  • Empathy and Bias: Identifying and overcoming unconscious biases to create a truly inclusive atmosphere.
  • Communication: Improving interactions across cultural divides to ensure clarity and compassion in care

 What You Will Gain

The session is tailored to equip Registered Managers, Deputies, and Senior care staff with:

Practical Strategies: Effective methods for managing a diverse workforce and providing culturally sensitive care.

Enhanced Person-Centred Care: Tools that ensure our services are not only professional but profoundly empathetic and personalised.

Inclusive Leadership: Insights on leading by example to foster an environment where every staff member and client feels truly valued and understood.

Why Attend?

Following my presentation, I’ll host a 15-minute Q&A session, where we can dive deeper into your experiences, thoughts, and questions, enriching our discussion about cultural agility in care.

As we prepare for the conference, I encourage you to ponder how embracing diversity can not only meet but surpass the traditional expectations of care. With the right knowledge and tools, we can transform our care services into beacons of inclusivity and compassion.

I look forward to sharing my insights and experiences with you, and to exploring how we can together ensure our care services answer a resounding “Yes” to the question, “Is your care service caring?”

Join us at the Summer Conference for a compelling exploration into cultural agility and its transformative impact on care.

Published July 2025 (data correct as at 2024/25) Skills for Care have launched their annual report on the size and structure of ythe care workforce This provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the size and structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England. A short, written report is available: download a copy of the report here. The methodology for this year’s report has changed from previous years. Adult social care related roles employed by the NHS are no longer included in the headline statistics for the size of the adult social care workforce. This change has been applied retrospectively to previous years, so the trends in this report are consistent. Comparing figures from this report to previous reports will not produce a valid trend. Also, our estimates for the number of filled posts in the independent sector now come from our automated data pipeline. This has resulted in substantial improvements to our estimates over time and some figures have changed as a result from previous versions of this report. For further information, see our statement. To download the data behind the visualisation below, including trended information, please see the Workforce estimates page.

What is happening with the Fair Pay Agreement for adult social care webinar On Tuesday 15 July 2025, Skills for Care was joined by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to share an overview of the Fair Pay Agreement (FPA) for adult social care. During the webinar, colleagues at DHSC explained what a FPA is, why it is being introduced and what this means for the sector. Details about the Employment Rights Bill and how this provides the legislative framework for FPAs were also shared. The webinar explored how the Government has been engaging with the sector so far, and ways in which those working in adult social care can get involved, including plans for a public consultation later this year. The event concluded with a Q and A A recording of the webinar is now available for you to view.
