New government immigration rules will impact the care sector

The Home Secretary announced sweeping immigration changes today, some of which will directly impact Adult Social Care

Speaking today in the House of Commons, James Cleverly announced the following headline measures:

The minimum salary needed to get a skilled worker visa to the UK is to rise to £38,700 but health and social care visas will be exempt.

It has been confirmed that registered staff (Nurses) working in social care will continue to be entitled to bring in dependents. The distinction will be made using the SOP codes. This is so that Nurses will have the same right as their colleagues working in the NHS. Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to other social care staff.

Health and Care worker visas will now only be available through CQC registered providers

The shortage occupation list will be reviewed, potentially shortening the list of eligible job roles. As care workers, seniors and managers are on this list, there may potentially be further chaos for the sector once the review is complete
