Hello! I’m Mike Butler, the Marketing Lead at the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA). Every day, I have the privilege of sharing our vision and passion with those working in the care sector—an area close to my heart. As an Activity Specialist myself I am grateful for the opportunity to work for the association that sets the standards of practice for Activity Providers champions Activity Providers and the critical role they play in enriching lives within care settings. I’m excited to tell you more about what we do and how we’re making a difference.

About NAPA: Who We Are

NAPA is the professional association for Activity Providers in the UK. We focus on enhancing quality of life for individuals in care through person-centred activities that promote meaningful engagement. We know that meaningful activity is essential, not just for engagement but for improving the overall physical and mental health of people in care. Our goal is simple: to support and empower the sector to create vibrant, enriching care environments.

Our Core Areas of Work

Our approach at NAPA is comprehensive, covering key areas that equip activity and care teams with the skills, resources, and recognition they deserve.

Let me walk you through our core areas of work:

Professional Development, Qualifications, and Training - Supporting the professional growth of Activity Providers is at the heart of what we do. We offer a range of qualifications and training opportunities tailored to help activity and care teams to expand their knowledge and improve their practice. From introductory courses to advanced certifications, we provide access to high-quality, evidence-based learning that enhances their expertise and confidence.

Practice Development, Guidance, and Resources - Activity provision requires both creativity and a solid foundation of best practices. To support this, NAPA offers a wealth of guidance and practical resources that help bring person-centred activities to life. Our toolkits, practice guides, and resources are designed to offer fresh ideas and effective methods for engaging people in ways that resonate with their unique interests and needs.

Supporting Evidence-Based Research, Projects, and Evaluations - At NAPA, we are committed to building a foundation of evidence that supports and validates the impact of meaningful activity in care settings. We actively encourage and support participation in research, projects, and evaluations that advance our understanding of effective care practices. By partnering on these initiatives, we can continually improve activity provision and demonstrate its value in enhancing quality of life.

Championing the Role of Activity Providers -  Activity Providers play an invaluable role within the care sector, and at NAPA, we believe in celebrating and elevating their contributions. Through our communications, events, and recognitions, we bring visibility to the dedication and creativity of Activity Providers.

My Role in NAPA’s Mission

As the Marketing Lead at NAPA, I’m here to ensure that Activity Providers, care settings, and suppliers know about our resources, training, and the support network we offer. I see my role as a bridge—connecting NAPA’s mission with the wider care sector so that every care provider has access to the tools they need to make a lasting difference. Through newsletters, social media, and outreach, I work to amplify the voices of Activity Providers and celebrate their vital role.

I am passionate about spreading awareness of NAPA’s mission and resources, and I strive to make our services relevant to Activity Providers, ensuring they feel supported, informed, and inspired. In my view, marketing isn’t just about promotion—it’s about connection. I want to connect people to the information and resources that empower them to do their best work.

Looking Forward

Looking ahead, I am excited about the future of NAPA and our impact on the care sector. With our growing network and commitment to innovation, we’re positioned to support more Activity Providers and build even greater collaboration and knowledge-sharing. I’m thrilled to be part of a team that continually champions meaningful activity and the wellbeing of individuals.

Care Can't Wait: New Campaign to change the story on Adult Social Care The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) has today launched a bold new public awareness campaign called Care Can’t Wait to help change the way the public and politicians view adult social care and support. The campaign will feature powerful short films and photography of people across England whose lives have been transformed by high-quality adult social care. These stories show how care enables people to live the lives they want in their homes and communities. Jess McGregor, incoming ADASS President and Executive Director of Adults and Health at Camden Council , launched the campaign at the Association’s annual conference Spring Seminar. She said: “Social care is about people – people living full, meaningful lives, not just surviving. Good care supports people to do the things they love, to stay connected, and to be active members of their communities. “But delays, underfunding, and misunderstanding are holding us back. Care can’t wait – and neither can the people who depend on it.” Changing the narrative With public polling showing low public awareness and understanding of adult social care, this campaign aims to set the record straight by showing it in fact supports millions of adults, including working-age disabled people, people with mental health challenges enabling them to live their lives on their own terms. By platforming people who draw on care and support and supporting them to tell their stories, the campaign challenges outdated perceptions and shows the positive impact high quality social care can have. The campaign launch features a film of Abbie-Jo Laurence, 36, from Wiltshire, who draws on care and support to live and work independently. She shares her personal experiences and hopes for a system that enables everyone to thrive. Over the coming months, more stories will be shared from across the country, showing the diversity of care and the strength of the people who draw on it. “I want people to see that social care isn’t something that happens to other people,” said Abbie-Jo. “It could be you, your partner, your child, or your neighbour. We all deserve to live well – and care makes that possible.” Engaging the public “This campaign is about changing hearts and minds,” said McGregor. “We want to show the human impact of good care – and what’s at risk when it’s not available. These are real stories from real people, and they deserve to be heard.” As part of the campaign, ADASS is calling on members of the public to visit www.adass.org.uk/care-cant-wait and to: Watch and share the films across social media and with family and friends Sign the campaign hand raiser to support the campaign and receive updates on how to get involved. Talk about social care with friends, family and colleagues Champion reform by urging our leaders to improve and invest in adult social care and support.
