The awards are a celebration of the very best in people management, wellbeing, apprenticeships and individual success.

Midland Care are a Domiciliary Care company who's Owner is Malik Khan. Malik tells us more about why they have been shortlisted for this award-

We asked him the following questions:

What do Midland Care do to be considered an outstanding employer?

"We work closely with the local community and charities. We invest in the local community and in our staff and we ensure that we listen to all our staff and service users. We also take regular feedback from all staff, professionals and service users that are involveed with our services.

We really try to encourage our staff to speak up and raise any concerns they might have. Through doing this, we can take action to resolve any issue and ensure all our staff are happy with their shifts and working hours. By doing this, we believe that we support our staff with their mental health and wellbeing.

Alongside this, we also pay a contribution towards our staff having Gym memberships and/or any other leisure activities they do. We also encourage cycling to work by paying towards the purchase of a bike, but at the same time we will also pay for staff driving lessons to support them to be able to travel in their role.

Additionally, we pay staff extra bonuses to support them with living costs and pay them above national minimum wage. This is further supported by our investment in staff training and we have 100% NVQ Level 2 qualified staff. But we will support which ever training they like to do to develop their skills and we currently have 4 staff qualified with Level 4, 3 staff Level 5, 1 Level 7, 8 staff Level 3".

What this award/recognition will mean for your business?

"This award means a lot, not just to Midland Care (UK) Ltd, but to Birmingham as well. wWinning this award will make our City proud as well. I see winning this award is actually for Birmingham . It will boost all of the care sector, where we have lot of complaints about the sector winning this award and it will show that there are good care providers too and how hard we work to maintain quality throughout the care sector"

International Recruitment Safeguarding & Wellbeing Directory We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Directory for Safeguarding and Wellbeing Services , featuring key services across the West Midlands and nationally. This provides information about a range of services – from preventing ill health, abuse, and crime, to organisations that help people whose behaviour may be causing harm to others. It will help anyone who needs to find support for others (or themselves) particularly if they have been affected by any type of crime. It was produced as part of the West Midlands International Recruitment Programme 2024/25 but can be applied much more widely. It is designed to provide quick access to help, advice, and action because safeguarding is a shared responsibility. You can access the Directory via WM-ADASS here . Further information and support regarding International Recruitment can be accessed on the WMCA website .

Is your Care Service "Responsive"? 13 May 2025

The Home Secretary - Yvette Cooper - announced on Sunday (11 May 2025) that it is "time to end care worker recruitment from abroad". This was followed by the launch today by the Prime Minister of a Government White Paper on immigration The Home secretary stated that rules will change this year - requiring firms to hire British nationals or extend visas of overseas workers already in the country. I think all of us would agree that recruiting from within the UK workforce is a better and cheaper solution but as many of our members know too well, that is not as easy as politiicians seem to think. It already looks like 2025 is turning out to be Social Care's 'Annus Horribilis' with both inflation busting increases in National Minuum Wage and Employers National Insurance Contributions, removing the option to recruit from overseas when there is not a large local pool to recruit from, feels like another twist of the knife As always the devil is in the detail and we'll let you know more as infomation becomes available. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/restoring-control-over-the-immigration-system-white-paper
