CQC Quality Statement- ‘Is Your Service Caring?’

We hosted our third Registered Managers, Deputies & Seniors CPD Conference on 4th July. This time we focused on the CQC Quality Statement ‘Caring’.

Approximately 100 people attended this event, to learn how they could ensure their care service is delivering this part of the CQC singular assessment framework.

We were delighted to welcome some inspiring speakers for the day including:

As well as a fantastic group of exhibitors, who added great value to the scope of the event, including:

The day began with our CEO, Keiron Broadbent, speaking about the upcoming General Election and how this would influence funding for social care.

Keiron also spoke about Digital Social Care and International Recruitment funding, as well as presenting the winner of our Pimp my Zimmer competition as Woodlands Quaker Home in Wolverhampton!

Marina Ibrahim- Globility Coaching- Diversity and Inclusion in care

We then welcomed our keynote speaker, Marina Ibrahim from Globility Coaching, who presented an interactive session on ‘Diversity and Inclusion for staff and service users’. This session involved plenty of audience engagement, where providers shared ideas on the topic and supported colleagues throughout.

The main theme throughout Marina’s presentation was around how ‘embracing diversity can enrich the care that providers offer to their service users'. Marina shared her thoughts around how embracing diversity in the workforce can ‘boost productivity with Cultural Intelligence’.

Registered Managers Panel Discussion – How do we ensure our service is caring?

After a fantastic start to the event, we moved on to our Registered Managers panel discussion, where a panel of three managers had the opportunity to discuss the following points within the ‘Caring’ quality statement:

  • Kindness, compassion and dignity
  • Treating people as individuals
  • Independence, choice and control,
  • Responding to people’s needs
  • Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The three managers, Mel, Katie and Sylwia discussed each point in depth and explained how they ensure their service meets all of these.

The background of the individuals on the panel shone through, with representatives from residential care and domiciliary care sharing their experiences in applying the above points in their settings.

This session finished with a Q&A from the audience, where providers were keen to express their experiences compared to that of the panel.

Over lunch, providers had the opportunity to visit the exhibition space, accessing lots of information regarding legal and HR services, workforce training and development and fully funded, paid, care research opportunities to take part in.

Royal Star and Garter- Workforce Wellbeing and the relation to the Caring Quality Statement.

After lunch, Royal Star and Garter delivered an intriguing session around ‘workforce wellbeing’. Shirley Hall, Director of Care and Wellbeing joined Katie McCauley to share her expertise around this topic, advising colleagues of systems that can be put in place to support workforce wellbeing.

Shirley and Katie continued to demonstrate how positive workforce wellbeing has a ‘virtuous circle’ effect on ‘improved communication, increased psychological safety, improved performance and better wellbeing in staff’.

The session then finished with a Q & A session, once again, where the audience were able to discuss and analyse how they could implement the suggestions into their different settings.

We then had a slight break between sessions, where we delivered our raffle prizes to the lucky winners. The winners received the following prizes:

  • A bottle of champagne and free 12 months training for all staff in the service from one of our endorsed training providers, Blue Stream Academy.
  • A free CQC mock inspection from our HR partner, Citation Ltd
  • 3 bottles of Prosecco
  • A hamper full of goodies

Skills for Care- How to Ensure Your Service is Caring?

Our final speaker of the day was Shirley Way, Head of Midlands Area from Skills for Care.  She delivered a workshop around ensuring your service is caring.

Throughout Shirley’s session, there was lots of audience engagement with a series of questions to facilitate group discussions around the points within the caring quality statement.

This led to lots of ideas being shared with the rest of the attendees and Shirley sharing where Skills for Care can support the managers with their wealth of resources.

Finally, our CEO, Keiron Broadbent, finished the day with thanking the audience for coming, as well as the speakers and exhibitors, while also highlighting details of our Autumn Providers Conference: West Midlands Cyber Summit on 3rd October 2024 and you can book your place here.

Published July 2025 (data correct as at 2024/25) Skills for Care have launched their annual report on the size and structure of ythe care workforce This provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the size and structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England. A short, written report is available: download a copy of the report here. The methodology for this year’s report has changed from previous years. Adult social care related roles employed by the NHS are no longer included in the headline statistics for the size of the adult social care workforce. This change has been applied retrospectively to previous years, so the trends in this report are consistent. Comparing figures from this report to previous reports will not produce a valid trend. Also, our estimates for the number of filled posts in the independent sector now come from our automated data pipeline. This has resulted in substantial improvements to our estimates over time and some figures have changed as a result from previous versions of this report. For further information, see our statement. To download the data behind the visualisation below, including trended information, please see the Workforce estimates page.
