Last week, DHSC announced that £250 million of government funding has been allocated to NHS hospitals to increase capacity as part of the urgent and emergency care recovery plan. This funding will create 900 beds, with an aim to reduce waiting times and help treat patients faster. This investment supports the NHS Urgent and Emergency Care Recovery Plan's goal to deliver 5,000 additional beds by winter, with 900 beds as part of this commitment.

The Health and Social Care Secretary has also announced how the funding will be allocated to 30 NHS organisations across England and provided some detail of how the trusts will use their funding. This capital funding is on top of the existing investment as part of the Urgent and Emergency Care recovery plan.

While welcome, this again can only ever be a sticking plaster. We need to see a greater focus on funding and workforce planning in social care.
