Another successful WMCA CPD Conference for Registered Managers, Deputies and Seniors.

"Is your Care Service Effective"?

We hosted our first Registered Managers, Deputies and Seniors CPD Conference of 2025 on 23rd January, at the Bescot Stadium in Walsall.

This time we focused on the CQC Quality Statement ‘Is your Care Service Effective?’

It was an educational and informative day, with approx. 110 care providers attending and a number of providers on a waiting list!

You can find out below about the speakers and discussons at this successful event.

In the meantime, we are now looking ahead to our Spring Providers Conference on Thursday 27th March where will be addressing the theme of the CQC's New Environmental Sustainability Assessment.

We have some great speakers lined up and you can find out more and book your space here.

Lindsey Rees- Quality Compliance Systems (QCS)

The day began with our keynote speaker Lindsey Rees from Quality Compliance Systems (QCS) taking our attendees through ‘instilling a culture of continuous improvement in your workforce’.

Lindsey spoke about the need for internal audits and how to effectively care plan to meet CQC requirements.

Trish Fowler - Capacity Tracker

The second session of the day brought us to Trish, Senior Delivery Manager from the Capacity Tracker. Trish discussed why it is important to benchmark your business.

Trish went into detail on how ‘benchmarking your business allows you to analyse your organisations operational output to identify areas of improvement’.

Trish then outlined how the Health and Social Care Act 2022 ‘requires care services to provide a core set of data on a monthly basis regardless of how they are funded’.

Trish then finished by answering questions around where the data goes that is submitted by providers and how the government uses the data to decide where areas of funding are needed.

Registered Managers panel discussion:

The managers then split into a residential and domiciliary care room where the managers selected for the panels shared their experiences of implementing the ‘Effective’ Quality Statement in their service.

Workshops- After the lunch break, we then split into breakout rooms for areas specific workshops for Residential and Domiciliary care/support living.

Domiciliary Care Workshop- Paramjit Toor- Home Instead Wolverhampton

Paramjit hosted his workshop on ‘Creating a Supportive and Collaborative atmosphere for remote workers’.

Paramjit provided tips to his fellow care services around the importance of:

  • Strong communication with the remote team/developing team connections through team building activities
  • Recognise and celebrate achievements from the remote team/offer consistent professional development to all staff
  • Prioritize wellbeing through encouraging time off and flexible working, as well as wellness programmes/create a sense of purpose in the work they do through a consistent team mission
  • Offer support to the remote team when they are in the field through things such as a buddy system and accessible management teams supporting.

Residential Care Workshop

Michael Butler,  National Activity Providers Association (NAPA)

Mike Butler hosted the Residential Care workshop stream, where he was guiding managers through how they can ‘effectively support their Activity Coordinators’.

Mike took the attendees through the resources NAPA offer and shared the training courses that managers can send their Activity Coordinators on to develop their skills and get activities ideas.

Our chair, Keiron Broadbent, created opportunity for the managers in the room to discuss their ideas on how they engage with their Activity Coordinators.

Skills for Care  ‘Effective’ workshop

The workshops finished with Shirley Way, Heads of Midland Area and Suzanne Petrie, Locality Manager for Skills for Care leading separate workshops in the Residential and Domiciliary Care streams.

They led an interactive session on how managers can implement strategies to meet the quality statement in their service, while encouraging the managers to share ideas in groups.

The day then ended with a raffle for the care providers with 5 lucky winners of prizes from our exhibitors on the day.

We had excellent feedback from the event and those who attended said it had been extremely worthwhile.
