Great feedback as WMCA hosts second Registered Managers, Deputies & Seniors CPD Conference

We hosted our second CPD conference for Registered Managers, Deputies & Seniors last week (25th January), in partnership with Skills for Care, around the topic of CQC Quality Statement ‘Safe’.

The location was the Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury and we welcomed approx. 70 care providers from all over the West Midlands, who were keen to learn more about ensuring their care service is operating safely.

We received incredible feedback about the event, including one provider, who stated:

“We are so grateful for your hard work organising this kind of seminar. It was so informative and useful. Thank you so much on behalf of the River of Care management. Everything we have learnt will be put into practice to enhance our care provision. We love WMCA, they are the best”!

Our fantastic range of speakers included an inspirational managers panel discussion, where four managers evaluated how they ensure their service is operating ‘safely’ and they answered numerous questions from the audience.

The managers on the panel showed their experience in the role through in-depth discussions around the topic and a huge thank you goes to Iram Painter (Belvidere Court Nursing Home), Lee-ann Andriaazen (Solihull Homecare), Lisa Bradley (Services for Independent Living) and Kim Northwood (The Gables Rest Home) for taking the time to support our event.

After this session, we welcomed Judith Timmins (Compliance Coach), who presented the areas to focus on to be compliant around being a ‘Safe’ service. Judith's session linked in nicely to Mick Feather (Care Business Manager at Citation Ltd), who explained to attendees where they should be focusing their attention in 2024 and the possible implications of the new CQC framework.

Mick entertained the audience after lunch, with his engaging presentation skills, bringing laughter to the providers!

Finally, Karen Rogers (Director at Herefordshire Care Homes) demonstrated to care providers how her homes are rated ‘Outstanding’ in ‘Safe’ and offered her support to any other providers who wish to use her homes as a benchmark.

Shirley Way (Head of Midlands Area for Skills for Care) then wrapped up the day by offering Skills for Care’s support to all attendees in how they can ensure their staff have the right training to me compliant with CQC’s new framework and information on next steps after the conference, to continue their learning.

Our Summer Conference will take place on Thursday 4 July 2024 and will focus on the CQC theme of Equality & Diversity- 'Caring' Quality Statement. Keep an eye on our newsletter and website for further details and how to book your place.

Published July 2025 (data correct as at 2024/25) Skills for Care have launched their annual report on the size and structure of ythe care workforce This provides the most up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the size and structure of the adult social care sector and workforce in England. A short, written report is available: download a copy of the report here. The methodology for this year’s report has changed from previous years. Adult social care related roles employed by the NHS are no longer included in the headline statistics for the size of the adult social care workforce. This change has been applied retrospectively to previous years, so the trends in this report are consistent. Comparing figures from this report to previous reports will not produce a valid trend. Also, our estimates for the number of filled posts in the independent sector now come from our automated data pipeline. This has resulted in substantial improvements to our estimates over time and some figures have changed as a result from previous versions of this report. For further information, see our statement. To download the data behind the visualisation below, including trended information, please see the Workforce estimates page.
